Passives for an ADAS Camera Module: Where the AEC-Q200 Shelf Runs Out

Walsin’s AEC-Q200 qualified MLCC range stops at 10 nF in 0201. Across the 240 automotive camera passive components Walsin Technology (Walsin) lists at 0201 in its three automotive MLCC series, the highest capacitance is 10 nF. The 100 nF you would normally put under a sensor rail does not exist at 0201 in any automotive series. It exists at 0402. That one measurement decides the footprint before anything else does.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds Walsin’s full MLCC parametric export — 24,026 rows, 24,025 of them real parts — and the 26 MLCC datasheet PDFs Walsin publishes. This post is written from those. Every part number below is real and appears in the export. Counts are of part numbers, not pieces.

What is the smallest AEC-Q200 MLCC Walsin offers, and how much capacitance does it hold?

0201, and 10 nF. Walsin’s three automotive MLCC series hold 3,082 rows between them. 240 of those sit at 0201, and we measured the full capacitance set on all 240: it runs from 0.1 pF to 10 nF with nothing above. At 0402 the same series reach 100 nF. At 0603 they reach 1 µF.

Case size AEC-Q200 qualified parts Highest X7R capacitance Match / mismatch vs a 100 nF rail
0201 204 10 nF Mismatch — 100 nF is not offered
0402 486 100 nF Match
0603 619 1 µF Match
0805 538 1000 nF Match
1206 339 2200 nF Match
1210 100 10 µF Match

MT03B103K100 is the 0201 ceiling: X7R, 10 nF, ±10%, 10 Vdc, 0.30 ±0.03 mm thick. MT15B104K160 is the first 0402 part that clears 100 nF. MT18B105K160 is the first 1 µF part, at 0603. A camera module squeezed for area usually wants the 0201, and on the automotive shelf that choice costs a decade of capacitance.

Can I get 100 nF decoupling in 0201 on an automotive camera?

Not from an AEC-Q200 part. Walsin does list 100 nF at 0201 — 21 part numbers — but every one of them sits in the General Purpose Caps series, at 6.3 V, 10 V or 16 V, in X5R or X6S. 0201X104K6R3 and 0201S104K6R3 are two of them. None is in an automotive series and none carries an AEC-Q200 claim.

Part number Series Dielectric Capacitance Rated voltage Match / mismatch vs AEC-Q200
MT03B103K100 Automotive, AEC-Q200 (MT) X7R 10 nF 10 Vdc Match — qualified, but a decade short
0201X104K6R3 General Purpose X5R 100 nF 6.3 Vdc Mismatch — no AEC-Q200 claim, X5R
0201S104K6R3 General Purpose X6S 100 nF 6.3 Vdc Mismatch — no AEC-Q200 claim
MT15B104K160 Automotive, AEC-Q200 (MT) X7R 100 nF 16 Vdc Match — but 0402, not 0201

So the real decision on an ADAS camera is between footprint and qualification, and it is forced at 0201. Either the rail moves to 0402 and stays inside the qualified range, or it stays at 0201 and the capacitor leaves it. There is no third option in this catalogue. The same derating arithmetic still applies on top — see MLCC DC bias and voltage derating, because a 6.3 V X5R at 0201 loses more of its nameplate under bias than an X7R does.

How many of Walsin’s automotive MLCC are actually AEC-Q200 qualified?

2,294 of 3,082. The remaining 788 sit in a series whose own name says they are not: Automotive Caps Without AEC-Q200 Certification_(MG series).

Series Rows AEC-Q200 qualified?
Automotive Caps Qualified to AEC-Q200 (MT series) 2,176 Yes
Automotive Soft term Caps Qualified to AEC-Q200 (ST series) 118 Yes
Automotive Caps Without AEC-Q200 Certification (MG series) 788 No — stated in the series name

That is 25.6% of Walsin’s automotive MLCC rows carrying no AEC-Q200 claim while still being sold as automotive parts. There is no qualification column in the export to filter on; the distinction lives in the series name text and nowhere else. MG03B102K500 and MT03B102K250 are both 1000 pF X7R parts at 0201, one character apart in the prefix, and only one of them is in a qualified series. For what the standard covers, see What AEC-Q200 actually certifies.

Walsin’s datasheets say AEC-Q200 compliant, not certified. Those two words are not the same claim, and neither is the same as holding a qualification report for the exact part number, case size, capacitance and voltage you are buying. Venatech makes no qualification claim of its own — ask for the report, and check its revision date against the datasheet revision.

Can I have soft termination and 0201 on the same board?

No. Soft termination in the automotive range is the ST series, 118 parts, and it starts at 0402 with exactly one part number.

Case size ST (soft term, AEC-Q200) parts Match / mismatch vs a 0201 footprint
0201 0 Mismatch — the series does not reach 0201
0402 1 Mismatch in practice — ST15B104K160 is the whole offering
0603 34 Match
0805 26 Match
1206 27 Match
1210 22 Match
1812 1 Match
1825 2 Match
2220 5 Match

A camera module on a flexible or thermally cycled mount is exactly the application soft termination exists for, and it is also the application most likely to be area-constrained. The two pull against each other: the soft-terminated shelf is 0603 and up, with a single 0402 part and nothing at 0201. ST18B104K500 is the 0603 100 nF part most camera designs end up at. Background on the termination chemistry is in Soft termination MLCC: SH, SG, ST and VT.

What high-temperature dielectric is available in the AEC-Q200 range?

Almost none, and this is the finding that surprises people. We classified the dielectric on all 3,082 automotive rows:

Dielectric Parts Note
NPO 1,630 Class I
X7R 1,418 125 °C
X5R 30 85 °C
X8G 3 150 °C, Class I
X8R 0 not present in any automotive series

X8R does not appear anywhere in Walsin’s three automotive MLCC series. X8G appears three times, and all three are the same part at three tolerances: MT15G180F500, MT15G180G500 and MT15G180J500 — 0402, 18 pF, 50 Vdc, 1.00 × 0.50 × 0.50 mm, at ±1%, ±2% and ±5%. An 18 pF Class I capacitor is a timing or RF part, not a decoupling part.

So a camera module sitting behind a windscreen or in an engine bay, where 150 °C ambient is real, has one 18 pF value to work with in the qualified range and no 150 °C X8R at all. The X8R parts Walsin does publish — 26 of them across the whole export — are not in an automotive series. That gap is worth raising with Walsin before the thermal budget is signed off rather than after.

Which rows in Walsin’s automotive MLCC export carry bad data?

Four, and we can name every one. This matters because a camera BOM is usually assembled by script from the export, not by hand.

Part number Field What it holds What it should hold
MT31B474J101 Capacitance a datasheet path 470 nF, from the 474 code
MT31B474K101 Capacitance a datasheet path 470 nF
MT31B474M101 Capacitance a datasheet path 470 nF
MT31B822J631 Capacitance 820OpF — a letter O 8200 pF

All four are in the AEC-Q200 qualified MT series at 1206. Three of them have /wp-content/uploads/datasheet/WTC_MLCC_Automotive_MT.pdf sitting in the capacitance field where a number belongs — a web path has been pasted into a numeric column. The fourth has a capital letter O where the second zero of 8200 should be, so it will not parse, will not sort and will not match a search on 8200pF. One more row outside the automotive series, 0201N0R1D250, carries the same URL defect.

Separately, the MG series has a column problem of its own. On 656 of its 788 rows the Tolerance column and the Termination column hold the identical value, and that value is neither a tolerance nor a termination: -0.1 on 369 rows, -0.05 on 220, -0.01 on 30, -0.2 on 21 and -0.02 on 16. MG15B101J160 reads -0.05 in both. Those 656 rows are 98.1% of the 669 rows in the entire 24,025-row MLCC export whose Tolerance field is neither a percentage nor a picofarad figure. The series Walsin flags as not AEC-Q200 qualified is also the series with no readable tolerance.

What does Venatech add that the parametric export does not?

Three things a spec sheet cannot do. First, the measurements above: a manufacturer’s export tells you what a part is, not where its shelf runs out, and the 0201 ceiling, the X8R gap and the four broken rows are only visible once you count the whole file. Second, a dated stock position for Hong Kong, so a design decision and an availability decision happen at the same time instead of six weeks apart. Third, lot and date-code traceability with a certificate of conformity on request, and original sealed packaging — which is what a camera programme’s incoming inspection asks for and what a catalogue listing cannot give you.

We will not tell you a part is equivalent. We will show you where it differs, field by field, and leave the qualification decision with you. The full range is on the Walsin MLCC range page.

The short version

The AEC-Q200 shelf at 0201 stops at 10 nF, so a 100 nF rail forces either 0402 or a non-qualified part. 788 of 3,082 automotive rows carry no AEC-Q200 claim and the only marker is the series name. Soft termination does not reach 0201 and has one part at 0402. X8R is absent from the automotive range entirely and X8G is three part numbers of the same 18 pF value. Four rows in the export have a URL or a letter where the capacitance should be.

Paste your camera BOM into the cross-reference tool and you will get Walsin candidates line by line, with the mismatches marked rather than hidden. Or send us one part number and ask us to cross it, and tell us the ambient you are designing to — that is the field this catalogue is thinnest on.

Faster than an email. The cross-reference tool takes a pasted list or a spreadsheet and returns Walsin candidates field by field, differences included. Ready stock shows what is physically in Hong Kong as a dated snapshot, so you can see straight away whether a line is a stock pull or a production slot. Qualification stays with you.

What is the highest capacitance Walsin offers in an AEC-Q200 0201 MLCC?

10 nF. All 240 automotive-series parts at 0201 run from 0.1 pF to 10 nF with nothing above, and MT03B103K100 is the ceiling part at X7R, 10 nF, ±10%, 10 Vdc. 100 nF first appears at 0402 in the qualified range, and 1 µF at 0603.

Can I buy a 100 nF 0201 automotive MLCC from Walsin?

Not an AEC-Q200 one. Walsin lists 21 part numbers at 0201 and 100 nF, including 0201X104K6R3 and 0201S104K6R3, but all 21 are in the General Purpose Caps series at 6.3 V to 16 V in X5R or X6S. None is in an automotive series and none carries an AEC-Q200 claim.

How many Walsin automotive MLCC are AEC-Q200 qualified?

2,294 of 3,082 rows. The MT series contributes 2,176 and the ST soft-termination series 118. The remaining 788 are in a series named “Automotive Caps Without AEC-Q200 Certification”, so a quarter of the automotive range carries no qualification claim and the only marker is the series name text.

Does Walsin offer soft termination at 0201?

No. The ST automotive soft-termination series holds 118 parts and starts at 0402 with a single part number, ST15B104K160. It has 34 parts at 0603, 26 at 0805, 27 at 1206 and 22 at 1210. A 0201 footprint and soft termination cannot be combined in this range.

Is there a 150 °C X8R MLCC in Walsin’s automotive range?

No. X8R does not appear in any of Walsin’s three automotive MLCC series. X8G appears on three rows, all the same 0402 18 pF 50 Vdc part at ±1%, ±2% and ±5%. Venatech has asked Walsin whether an AEC-Q200 X8R offering exists outside the published export.

Which Walsin automotive MLCC rows have bad capacitance data?

Four. MT31B474J101, MT31B474K101 and MT31B474M101 carry a datasheet web path in the capacitance field instead of a number, and MT31B822J631 carries 820OpF with a capital letter O. All four are AEC-Q200 MT series parts at 1206. Confirm the values with Walsin before designing them in.

Why does the MG series tolerance column look wrong?

Because on 656 of its 788 rows the Tolerance and Termination columns hold the identical value, and it is neither — -0.1, -0.05, -0.01, -0.2 or -0.02. Those rows are 98.1% of every unreadable Tolerance field in the 24,025-row export. Take the tolerance for an MG part from the datasheet, not the export.

Is a Walsin automotive MLCC AEC-Q200 certified or compliant?

Walsin’s datasheets say compliant. Compliant is not certified, and neither is the same as holding a qualification report for your exact part number, case size, capacitance and voltage. Request the report and check its revision date against the datasheet revision. Venatech makes no qualification claim of its own.

Three ways to get this answered today

1. Cross a part, free. Paste up to 500 part numbers, or drop an Excel or CSV file, into the free cross-reference tool. It is matched against Walsin’s published catalogue and returns candidates field by field, with every difference from your original stated rather than hidden. Filter by commercial or automotive grade, or for soft termination, high temperature, safety certified, high Q / low ESR or low profile. There is no login and no charge.

2. Send the whole BOM. Upload a BOM and request a quote and we will come back line by line — including the lines we cannot help with, which is usually the more useful half of the answer.

3. Check the shelf before you commit. Ready stock shows what was physically in Hong Kong as at 23 September 2026. It is a dated snapshot, never a live feed, and quantities are never permanent.

Why take our word for any of this? Don’t — check it.

Venatech Limited (威納電子有限公司) is an authorised Walsin Technology distributor in Hong Kong. Confirm that with Walsin rather than with us. On the safety capacitor series we hold UL file E182369, which is searchable in UL’s own public database, together with TUV certificates R50381780 and R50195920 and CQC CQC20001280137 and CQC20001280136, against EN 60384-14:2023, IEC 60384-14:2023 and UL 60384-14. We hold 28 Walsin datasheets, 451 pages, and we will send the one covering your part number. Shipments arrive in original sealed Walsin packaging with lot and date-code traceability, and a certificate of conformity is available per shipment on request.

We will also tell you what we do not hold, which no competitor publishes. REACH, SVHC, conflict minerals, PFAS, China RoHS, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, PPAP, IMDS and a Declaration of Conformity appear nowhere in those 451 pages. You would rather hear that from us now than from your own supplier-approval team later. AEC-Q200 is compliant in Walsin’s own words and never certified, we hold no manufacturer’s end-of-life or allocation list for any brand, and qualification in your own circuit stays with you. We will not tell you a part is equivalent. We will show you where it differs.
