Passive components for France’s rail electronics, from Hong Kong, start with voltage headroom. Matching our 23 September 2026 stock list to Walsin’s export, 359 of 490 stocked general purpose MLCC lines have a higher-voltage twin on size, dielectric, capacitance and tolerance, and 179 have one at 200 V or more. None of the 51 X5R lines does.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin Technology (Walsin) MLCC parametric export: 24,026 rows, 23,601 distinct part numbers. This post is for a purchasing or design engineer at a French rail electronics maker who wants to know what a Hong Kong source can put in writing. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Where it states a development, it names the source, the document date and the day we fetched it (21 October 2026).
What did SNCF and the trade press publish that touches a French rail component buyer?
A fleet order, with no component in it. SNCF Voyageurs ordered 15 further TGV M trainsets from Alstom, according to an SNCF Group page dated 21 January 2026 and a Rail Journal report dated 19 January 2026; delivery is due in 2029 and the trains are to run between France and Belgium. An order of that kind sits years ahead of any purchase of capacitors.
The SNCF page says the order adds to 115 units already purchased and that the new model was scheduled to enter service in 2026. The Rail Journal report gives the same count and delivery year. Neither source says anything about electronics, suppliers or shortages, and we draw no conclusion about which parts any rolling stock maker buys. We have no relationship with SNCF or Alstom, and nothing here implies either buys Walsin parts.
| Point | What the source says | Source date | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|
| New TGV M order | 15 trainsets from Alstom, delivery 2029, France to Belgium services | SNCF Group page, 21 January 2026 | Mismatch with any component claim: no part or volume is named |
| Same order, trade press | 15 additional double-deck TGV M trains, delivery 2029 | Rail Journal, 19 January 2026 | Match with the SNCF page on count and year |
| Fleet total | The Rail Journal subtitle gives 160 on order; the listed orders do not add to 160 | Rail Journal, 19 January 2026 | Mismatch: we do not repeat the total |
How many stocked Walsin MLCC lines have a higher-voltage twin?
359 of 490. We joined the MLCC lines in our stock list, as at 23 September 2026, to the export: 762 of 865 join, and 490 of those are in the General Purpose series. For each, we looked for any part in the General Purpose or Middle to High Voltage series with the same size, dielectric, capacitance and tolerance at a higher rated voltage. 359 have one, and 179 have one rated 200 V or more.
The split by stocked voltage matters most. Of 299 stocked lines at 50 V, 193 have a higher rung, and for 185 of them the next rung is 100 V; 136 have a twin at 200 V or more. Of 46 stocked lines at 100 V, 38 have one, all at 200 V or more. By dielectric, the 179 are 104 NPO and 75 X7R: of 51 stocked X5R lines, 0 has a twin at 200 V or more. We have not seen this counted anywhere.
| Stocked voltage | Lines | With any higher-voltage twin | With a twin at 200 V or more | Match / mismatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6.3 V to 25 V | 144 | 128 | 5 | Match on four fields; mismatch on voltage |
| 50 V | 299 | 193 | 136 | Match on four fields; mismatch on voltage, and often on height |
| 100 V | 46 | 38 | 38 | Match on four fields; mismatch on voltage |
| 250 V | 1 | 0 | 0 | Mismatch: no higher rung in the two series |
Which worked part numbers show the voltage steps, and what changes besides voltage?
Height changes. Take the stocked 1206 X7R line 1206B104K500: 100 nF, plus or minus 10 percent, 50 V, 0.80 mm thick. Its twins at 100 V, 200 V, 250 V and 450 V share size, dielectric, capacitance and tolerance, and they grow from 0.95 mm to 1.60 mm thick. Of the 171 lines with a 200 V twin where both thickness fields parse, 49 have a thinnest twin taller than the stocked part, 119 the same height and 3 shorter.

Middle to High Voltage | Same four fields, 200 V, 1.25 mm | Match on four fields; mismatch on voltage and series |
A higher rung is not a drop-in. DC bias loss, working voltage and height all move, and the export holds none of the curves. Our post on MLCC DC bias and voltage derating explains the loss, and our rail electronics post for Austria counts the 200 to 250 V rows by capacitance. The MLCC range lists the families.
What do Walsin’s documents say about rail?
Nothing. We converted all 28 Walsin datasheets we hold, 451 pages, to text and searched them: rail, railway, traction, EN 50155 and EN 45545 each appear in 0 of 28 files.
That is a statement about our documents, not about Walsin. A railway standard, a fire-behaviour requirement or a quality scheme is not in the documents we hold, and it is on our request list. For inductors, the picture is thinner still: only 146 of 5,410 inductor rows publish a saturation current, as our France rail inductor post sets out.
What will we not tell you about France?
Anything about French rail approval, railway standards or import. We hold no office, entity or stock in France; our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation. We state no duty rate, customs procedure, transit time or carrier, and we give no legal or customs advice; confirm with your compliance team. We make no claim that any Walsin part is approved for railway use.
How Venatech helps
We start with the cross-reference. Paste an MLCC line into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts and lists Walsin candidates with match and mismatch fields, or upload a list to the BOM checker, up to 500 part numbers. The Hong Kong ready-stock list is a dated snapshot, 23 September 2026, never live-synced. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We work from Hong Kong, in small lots, and you can request a quote through the site. The tables above came from our own export. We hold neither ISO 9001 nor IATF 16949. Qualification stays with you.
The short version
For a French rail electronics MLCC line, voltage headroom is a catalogue lookup and a height check. 359 of 490 stocked general purpose lines have a higher-voltage twin, 179 at 200 V or more, and 0 of 51 X5R lines does. Of the 171 lines with a 200 V twin and readable thickness, 49 get taller. Of 28 Walsin datasheets, 0 mention rail.
Send us one MLCC line from a rail power board and we will return the Walsin parts, the higher rungs and the height change, with every difference stated. If your rail needs 200 V, is your footprint ready for 1.60 mm?
