Defence Supply Chain Due Diligence for Passive Components in the United Kingdom: 0 of 28 Walsin Datasheets Name a Site, Country or Lot Traceability

Defence supply chain due diligence for passive components in the United Kingdom starts with paperwork, and Walsin Technology (Walsin) datasheets are thin on it. We converted all 28 PDFs we hold, 451 pages, to text and counted: 0 name a manufacturing site, a country, a company suffix or lot traceability, and 1 prints the word Walsin.

Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin parametric exports: 24,026 MLCC rows in 00_ALL_MLCC_parts_combined.xlsx (23,601 distinct part numbers) and our stock list as at 23 September 2026. This post is for a purchasing or design engineer in the United Kingdom who sells electronics into defence programmes and is being asked who made each part. It uses civil procurement rules only, and no weapons detail. Every part number below is real and every count is ours. Each news or regulatory statement names its source and the day we fetched it, 21 October 2026.

What changed for United Kingdom defence suppliers between 2025 and 2026?

Three things: a new procurement regime, a spending target for small suppliers, and a push for supply chain scrutiny. The Procurement Act 2023 came into force on 24 February 2025, the government’s Defence Industrial Strategy targets an extra 2.5 billion pounds of Ministry of Defence spending with small and medium businesses by May 2028, and in June 2026 a policy note on national security exemptions was published. A small electronics maker feels all three through its customers’ supplier questionnaires.

The detail, from the sources we fetched. A law firm note dated 25 February 2025 says the Act replaced the old defence-specific rules, that suppliers excluded on national security grounds can be placed on a public debarment list, and that a business using subcontractors should check none of them appear there. A summary of the Defence Industrial Strategy, published on 8 September 2025, says suppliers should expect greater supply chain scrutiny and enhanced due diligence. The government’s own two-page summary of the strategy sets the 2.5 billion pound small-supplier target. A second law firm article dated 30 June 2026 reports that the government wants to use national security exemptions in four sectors, shipbuilding, energy infrastructure, AI and steel, and that suppliers should check whether a claimed exemption is clearly justified.

None of this names electronic components. The practical effect is downstream: a prime asks a sub-tier supplier where its parts come from, and the sub-tier supplier asks us. We have no relationship with any programme, prime or ministry, and nothing here implies any approval.

What do Walsin’s own documents say about who made a part and where?

Almost nothing, and the absence is measurable. We searched all 28 PDFs, 451 pages, for ten country and region names, company suffixes such as Co. Ltd and Corp, the words plant, factory and manufacturing site, origin, made in, traceability, lot number, date code and batch, and counterfeit: each appears in 0 of 28 files. We have not seen this counted anywhere.

The word Walsin itself appears in the extracted text of 1 file in 28, twice, in the 65-page catalogue; the approval sheets carry a document code and a month, and no company name in their text layer. The logo may be an image, so read this as what a text search finds, not what a reader sees on the page. The sheets are dated: 24 MLCC series sheets run from January to September 2026, the MR resistor sheet reads March 2024, the application guide January 2022 and the WR general purpose resistor sheet September 2016. Twenty-six of the 28 say the contents are subject to change without prior notice.

None of that is a defect in the parts. It means that a datasheet cannot answer a due diligence question about the maker, site or country, so the answer has to come from Walsin in writing. That request is on our request list; we have not received it, and we state no country of origin.

Which Walsin 0805 X7R parts cross a rugged-electronics line, and what stays open?

The electrical fields cross easily; the maker fields stay empty. Take a 0805, X7R, 100 nF, 50 V, plus or minus 10 percent brief: one general purpose part matches on all five fields and is on our shelf, and five neighbours differ in tolerance, series or thickness. The last column is yours to fill with your incumbent.

Walsin part Series and sheet date Tolerance, thickness On shelf 23 Sep 2026 Match / mismatch with the brief Your incumbent
0805B104K500 General Purpose, Sep 2026 plus or minus 10%, 0.80 and 1.25 mm rows Yes Match on size, dielectric, capacitance, tolerance, voltage; thickness listed twice
0805B104J500 General Purpose, Sep 2026 plus or minus 5% No Mismatch: tighter tolerance
0805B104M500 General Purpose, Sep 2026 plus or minus 20% No Mismatch: looser tolerance
MT21B104K500 Automotive MT, Aug 2026 plus or minus 10%, 1.25 and 0.80 mm rows No Match on the five fields; mismatch on series, which is an AEC-Q200 compliant line
MG21B104K500 Automotive MG, Sep 2026 Tolerance column reads -0.1 No Mismatch: the export holds a non-tolerance value, so read the sheet
SH21B104K500 Soft termination SH, Sep 2026 plus or minus 10%, 1.25 mm No Match on the five fields; mismatch on termination type

The first row is a wrinkle we found by opening the export: 0805B104K500 appears twice, with a 0.80 mm and a 1.25 mm body, so a height check needs the datasheet. Our post on AEC-Q200 and what it certifies explains why the MT row is a compliance claim you should verify with the qualification report for the exact part. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.

What does a Hong Kong shelf hold for a United Kingdom defence supplier?

A broad general purpose shelf and no automotive series. Our stock list as at 23 September 2026 has 864 MLCC rows; 762 distinct part numbers match the export, and 691 of them, 90.7 percent, sit in series whose datasheet is dated September 2026, with the other 71 under April 2026 sheets. None sits under an older sheet.

By series, the 762 split into 490 General Purpose, 149 Middle to High Voltage, 66 Microwave RF, 30 soft termination SH, 22 High Q Low ESR HH, 2 Big Size, 2 High Temperature and 1 Ultra Microwave. The remaining 102 stock rows have no match in the export, which we report rather than guess at. That gap matters for due diligence, because a line with no export row has no parametric record to check. Our ready stock list shows what is held now; it is a dated snapshot, never live-synced.

We hold no ISO 9001 certificate. What we offer is lot and date-code traceability, a certificate of conformity per shipment on request and original sealed Walsin packaging. Our post on Walsin passive components in Hong Kong stock covers the shelf, and the MLCC range lists the families.

What will we not tell you about United Kingdom defence procurement?

How to meet a clause, and where a part was made. We state no country of origin for any Walsin part, no sanctions or exclusion status for any company, and no view on whether a part is suitable for a defence programme; we have no office, entity or stock in the United Kingdom. Our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation.

We give no legal, customs or export advice; confirm with your compliance team. Qualification stays with you, and so does the decision about any exemption or exclusion rule.

How Venatech helps

Paste your incumbent into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch. Load a whole BOM, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file, to run every line. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026.

Worked example from our own export: the 0805 brief above returned 18 rows, 14 part numbers and 6 series, and the shelf covers one of them. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We serve from Hong Kong in small lots, and a quote is requested through the site. The 28 datasheets we hold are sent on request.

The short version

For a United Kingdom defence supplier, the maker question cannot be answered from a Walsin datasheet: 0 of 28 files name a site, a country or lot traceability, and the dates run from September 2016 to September 2026.

Send us one rugged line from your BOM and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated and the documentation gap named. If your prime asks where a capacitor was made and the datasheet is silent, who writes the answer down?
