Machinery and drives passive components for Germany come down to a voltage margin you can check in a minute. On a 24 V control rail, 4 of the 11 stocked Walsin Technology (Walsin) 1uF X7R part numbers are rated 50 V or more. Walsin’s own guide says failure rate follows a third power of voltage, so the margin is not cosmetic.
Venatech Limited, an authorised Walsin distributor in Hong Kong, holds the Walsin MLCC export of 24,026 rows (23,601 distinct part numbers) and a stock list dated 23 September 2026. This post is for a design or sourcing engineer at a German machine or drive builder redesigning a control board before the new Machinery Regulation applies. Every part number is real and every count is ours. News and regulatory statements name their source and the day we fetched it, 21 October 2026.
What do German machinery and drive builders face between now and January 2027?
A new law and a soft market, at the same time. The EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 applies from 20 January 2027, and the VDMA, the German machinery association, forecast on 17 September 2026 that German machinery production will fall 2 percent in real terms in 2026 and rise 3 percent in 2027. Builders are redesigning into a thin order book.
The detail, from the sources we fetched. The EU safety agency page, last updated 16 January 2025, says the Regulation replaces Directive 2006/42/EC and applies from 20 January 2027. A supplier explainer says it adds cybersecurity duties for safety functions, treats software as a safety component, requires third-party inspection for six high-risk machine categories, and allows digital instructions and declarations of conformity. A report dated 18 September 2026 on the VDMA statement says production in the first seven months of 2026 was 4.1 percent below the prior-year level, real order intake rose 5 percent, and orders from non-euro countries rose 14 percent; it names weak competitiveness and high interest rates among the risks.
We draw one conclusion, and it is ours: when a board is redesigned for a new compliance date with little slack in the budget, a voltage margin that costs nothing in bill-of-materials terms is worth checking first. We have no relationship with the VDMA or any German machine builder.
What do Walsin’s documents say about failure rate and voltage?
They give a rule, not a number. We converted all 28 PDFs we hold, 451 pages, to text and counted: the words failure rate appear in 4 files and 6 places, and functional safety, IEC 61508, ISO 13849, SIL, MTBF, MTTF, ISO 26262 and redundancy appear in 0 of 28. We have not seen this counted anywhere.
The rule sits in the 12-page application guide dated January 2022: voltage derating reduces failure rate, which follows the third power of voltage, so a part used at Uw on a rating of UR sees a factor of (Uw/UR) cubed. Three series sheets, General Purpose, MG and SG, define useful life as the time at which cumulative failure rate reaches 1 percent, and General Purpose states that lifetime can exceed 10 years at 80 percent of rated voltage or less, with a temperature condition we reproduce only by reference to the sheet. The guide also tells designers to add a fuse or similar fail-safe function where a shorted capacitor could cause smoke or fire.
No file gives a failure rate in FIT, and no file ties a part to a machinery or functional safety standard. Our post on MLCC DC bias and voltage derating covers the capacitance side of the same margin, which this post leaves out.
Which Walsin 1uF X7R parts pass a 24 V rail check, and what stays open?
The 80 percent rule removes every part rated below 30 V; the cubic rule then ranks the rest. For a 24 V rail, a 1uF X7R brief and a rating of at least 30 V, the table shows four stocked part numbers that match and two that do not. The factor column is Walsin’s formula applied to 24 V; it is a relative figure, not a failure rate.
| Walsin part | Size, tolerance, rated voltage | Uw/UR on 24 V | Factor (Uw/UR) cubed | Match / mismatch with the brief | Your incumbent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
0805B105K250 |
0805, plus or minus 10%, 25 V | 0.96 | 0.885 | Mismatch: 96% of rating, above the 80% rule | |
1206B105K250 |
1206, plus or minus 10%, 25 V | 0.96 | 0.885 | Mismatch: same reason | |
1206B105J500 |
1206, plus or minus 5%, 50 V | 0.48 | 0.111 | Match on size class, dielectric, capacitance, voltage | |
1206B105K500 |
1206, plus or minus 10%, 50 V | 0.48 | 0.111 | Match | |
1210B105K500 |
1210, plus or minus 10%, 50 V | 0.48 | 0.111 | Match; two export rows, 1.25 and 1.60 mm bodies | |
1210B105K101 |
1210, plus or minus 10%, 100 V | 0.24 | 0.0138 | Match; 2.00 mm body |
Going from 25 V to 50 V cuts the factor from 0.885 to 0.111, about one eighth. Going to 100 V cuts it to 0.0138, but the part is a 1210 with a 2.00 mm body, against 1.15 mm for the 1206 at 25 V on the rows we read. The tolerance, height and capacitance at working voltage are yours to confirm against the General Purpose sheet. Confirm against both datasheets and qualify in your own circuit.
What does a Hong Kong shelf hold at 1uF X7R for a German drive builder?
A small, mostly mid-voltage set. Of the 179 distinct 1uF X7R part numbers in the Walsin export, 93 are rated 50 V or more and 52 are rated 100 V or more; our stock list as at 23 September 2026 holds 11, of which 4 are rated 50 V or more. The other 7 are rated 6.3 V to 25 V.
The 11 split by rating as 1 at 6.3 V, 2 at 10 V, 1 at 16 V, 3 at 25 V, 3 at 50 V and 1 at 100 V, all General Purpose, across 0402 to 1210. Stock moves; the ready stock list is a dated snapshot, never live-synced. Our post on how to cross-reference an MLCC shows the method, and the MLCC range lists the families. We hold lot and date-code traceability, a certificate of conformity per shipment on request and original sealed Walsin packaging.
What will we not tell you about the Machinery Regulation?
Whether your machine complies. We make no claim that any Walsin part is a safety component, is suitable for a safety function, or meets any machinery or functional safety standard; none of the 28 datasheets we hold names one. We hold no office, entity or stock in Germany, and our locations are Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jiangmen, with Chengdu in preparation.
We give no legal, customs or conformity advice; confirm with your compliance team. We hold no ISO 9001 certificate. Qualification stays with you.
How Venatech helps
Paste your incumbent into the free cross-reference tool, which decodes 18 manufacturers’ part numbers across 800,000+ crossable parts, and read the Walsin candidates with each field marked match or mismatch. Load a whole BOM, up to 500 part numbers or an Excel or CSV file, to run every line. The ready-stock list is a Hong Kong snapshot dated 23 September 2026.
Worked example from our own export: the 1uF X7R filter above returned 179 distinct part numbers, and our shelf covers 11 of them. Walsin is the only line we are authorised for; Stackpole and Viking are lines we supply. We serve from Hong Kong in small lots, and a quote is requested through the site. The 28 datasheets, 451 pages, we hold are sent on request.
The short version
A German drive builder can test a voltage margin in a minute: a 25 V part on a 24 V rail runs at 96 percent of rating, a 50 V part at 48 percent. Walsin’s guide says failure rate follows the third power of voltage, so that is a factor of 0.885 against 0.111. None of the 28 datasheets mentions functional safety, so the safety case stays yours.
Send us one control-board line from your BOM and we will return the Walsin parts with the differences stated. If the margin costs nothing, why is your 24 V rail still sitting on a 25 V capacitor?
